Konak Square, Izmir

Konak Square is a gateway to many attractions in the center of Izmir. We had shared it in the top 3 squares in Europe as a bonus, and now let's look at some more details.

While the official name of the Square is Atatürk Square, it is known as Konak Square by everyone. It took its name from the district in which it is located. The Clock Tower is located in the middle of the square. The tower was completed in 1901 and underwent restoration at regular intervals. There is also the Konak Mosque known as the Yalı Mosque in the square. The mosque was built and opened in the second half of the 18th century. On the side of the square facing the Metropolitan City Hall is the First Bullet Monument. This monument was built in 1974 in memory of Osman Nevres (Hasan Tahsin), who led the first resistance against the Greek occupation.
