Basic Details for Travel to Adiyaman

Adiyaman is one of the new destinations where tourists prefer in Turkey. The city is a center of attraction in many ways, and it is impossible to describe every point in detail in a single blog content. You can find some basic details that can give you an idea for your travel plan in this content.

The city is in southeastern of the country. There are accommodation options available for almost any budget in the city. Adiyaman hotels are not too expensive for a few nights stay and their facilities are very good.
How to Travel?
There're direct flights from Ankara (Esenboga), Istanbul and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen airports. If you travel from abroad, Istanbul Airport can be better. If you're in Turkey already like in Antalya or Izmir, you can evaluate other two airports as well.

The airport is about 20 kilometers from the city center. If you don't rent a car or get a taxi, you can choose the bus company (Bay-Tur) that operates according to flight hours.

Things to Do in Adiyaman
You probably heard about Mount Nemrut and you want to include it in your itinerary. Adiyaman's most popular destination is Mount Nemrut, but there is more...
Mount Nemrut, Adiyaman
Mount Nemrut on the first day of your trip will certainly be a good start. The trip to the mountain is not recommended during the winter season. It can be reached from the city centre to the mountain at the end of an approximately one-and-a-half hour journey. You can get a taxi or rent a car. My suggestion is to negotiate with a local guide or a daily tour company.

There are different tour plans for visitors:
i) The first is the longest and lasts up to 6 hours. Travelers leave the city at night and watch the sun rise on the mountain. Then Arsameia Ruins, Cendere Bridge and Karakus Tumulus are visited.
ii) The second one lasts up to 5 hours and it includes only the mount.
Ancient City of Perre (Hierapolis)
Ancient City of Perre (Hierapolis) is close to city center. There are more than 200 rock tombs here. On the same day, you can also visit Adiyaman Museum in the city center. You can make a historic trip in the museum. The exhibited objects belong to Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. (The museum is closed on Mondays.)

You can visit Oturakci Bazaar on the next day. This bazaar is like Grand Bazaar or Spice Bazaar in Istanbul and you can buy handicrafts such as carpets and rugs. After that you can visit the castle which is 5-6 minutes walk away. After visiting the castle, you can relax in the restaurants and cafes in the same area and eat your meal. Roasting and grilled dishes can be preferred. The prices are cheap, when you compare them with restaurants in Istanbul. Roasted meat (kara kavurma) or Adana kebab can be good, indeed.

Have a nice journey...
